Summer is the perfect time of year to get married. The weather tends to be more reliable (and fingers crossed this sunshine holds if your wedding is coming up), people are in a better mood than in the dingy winter months, and the long light nights mean your reception often turns into a wonderful, joyous garden party with kids racing around until sunset and your friends and family topping up their tans while they reminisce.
At The Flower Shop in Uppermill we have everything you could need to plan the perfect wedding flowers and decorations. From the centrepiece bridal bouquet, to smaller arrangements for your attendants, buttonholes to beautiful church displays; we can help you to choose the ideal floral accompaniment for your special day. We’re just a phone call away – 01457 872 529.
And let’s not forget the ceremony. If you’re opting for a traditional church wedding, or you’re going for a register office or somewhere a little more off the wall, we can accommodate with a garden full of ideas for decorating the building inside and out. From lychgates to pew ends to interior designs that dazzle; we have the knowledge and experience to deliver exactly what you need.
You’ll also need to consider your reception venue. While many people still prefer a formal or traditional table centre design, we are increasingly asked for more modern, less fussy arrangements combining the best flowers this vibrant season has to offer to create a cascade-type decoration.
Though we wouldn’t want to discourage you if you have your heart set on a particular bloom, we would perhaps lead you towards British blooms at this time of year. You’ll no doubt have seen from the explosion of colour in people’s gardens that a wealth of home-grown flowers are available to you from June onwards, and we tend to find that these are a little more robust than more tropical plants; and you’ll be doing your bit for the environment to with far fewer transport miles required.
Roses, peonies, sweet peas and cornflowers are all at their best from June until early autumn; and any of these would make a fantastic base for your wedding theme. Roses in particular are incredibly versatile as they are available in such a wide range of varieties and colours. Of course, we shouldn’t forget the humble sunflower – especially if you are looking to more earthy, natural tones in your colour scheme. Dahlias, freesias and zinnias can also perform admirably.
And don’t forget the greenery! The right leaves can act as a spectacular contrast to the colourful zing of the flowers and really transform your arrangements.
